Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh made history at his Met Gala 2025 debut in New York on Tuesday, blending his Punjabi roots with global fashion effortlessly and with aplomb. Calm, confident, unapologetically ‘desi’ - this wasn’t just style; it was a cultural statement, heritage in motion.

Dressed to the nines in a traditional imperial attire and a multi-layered, jewel-studded necklace with a stunning emerald centrepiece – Diljit won hearts in a look inspired by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh, the erstwhile ruler of the princely state of Patiala.

Oozing ‘Punjabiyat’ from head to toe, Dosanjh made headlines in a bejewelled turban with a white ‘kalgi’ (feather), a lion-headed kirpan in hand, an ivory cape embroidered with Gurmukhi alphabets and the map of Punjab, and a neckpiece inspired by the iconic ‘Patiala Necklace’ — created by France-based jewellery house Cartier nearly a century ago. Diljit also wore a Cartier watch to complete the look.

While Dosanjh’s outfit was custom-made by American-Nepalese designer by Prabal Gurung, the jewels were customised by Jaipur-based Golecha Jewels.

The annual Met Gala celebrated as the grandest gathering of fashion icons from around the globe.

Diljit's team shared a series of videos of the Punjabi superstar's appearance at the gala on its official Instagram page.

"HISTORY #diljitdosanjh #metgala #diljit," was the caption of one of the posts featuring the singer climbing down the stairs as he leaves the hotel for the Met ball.

A video of the "Amar Singh Chamkila" actor twirling his moustache was captioned as: "He wore a Legacy #diljit #metgala #diljitdosanjh." Diljit, who has emerged as one of the popular Indian artistes around the world in the last few years, confirmed his attendance at the Met Gala 2025 on Sunday via social media.

The star took to Instagram to share a collection of images from his MET debut in his regal Maharaja attire, leaving fans in awe. In his caption, he expressed, "MAIN HOON ਪੰਜਾਬ (Punjab) 😇🙏🏽 #metgala Inspired by The Theme of Black Dandyism, I Bring My Turban, My Culture & My Mother Tongue ' ਪੰਜਾਬੀ (Punjabi)' to The MET GALA." Fans have inundated the comments with heart-eye and love emojis, celebrating the actor's royal style.
