Diljit Dosanjh, the immensely popular Punjabi entertainer, has been making waves, particularly after his outstanding performance on Jimmy Fallon's The Tonight Show. His influence spans both music and acting on a global scale. Despite his widespread fame, very little is known about Diljit's personal life.

Diljit was born on January 6, 1984, in Dosanjh Kalan in Phillaur tehsil, Jalandhar district, Punjab. At the young age of 11, his parents sent him to live with his uncle, Davinder Singh Sodhi, a renowned hymn singer, in the industrial city of Ludhiana. His father, Balbir Singh, was a bus driver with Punjab Roadways who enjoyed playing hockey in his spare time.

During this time, Diljit began to accompany his uncle on the tabla and even started humming along. However, he was highly influenced by the pop music that was taking over the streets of Punjab, igniting his passion for singing.

At just 16 years old, Diljit released his first album, Ishq Da Uda Ada (The ABC of Love). By the age of 17, he was charging Rs 50,000 for a single show and was frequently booked during the wedding season.

Sukhpal Sukh, an Indo-Canadian musician, recorded Diljit’s second album, Dil, for Finetone in the UK in 2003. He mentioned that a young Diljit idolized Michael Jackson and had a strong penchant for fashion.

The journey of this actor into Punjabi films began with a small guest role in Mel Kara de Rabba (2010), despite being part of a star-studded cast that included Jimmy Shergill and Gippy Grewal. The following year, he landed a lead role alongside Grewal in Jihne Mera Dil Luteya, a film that became a huge success and marked the birth of a talented actor.

Today, he stands as the sole Pollywood actor who has seamlessly made the transition to Bollywood while retaining his turban and Punjabi accent. From Udta Punjab in 2016 to Phillauri (2017) and, most recently, Crew, he has effortlessly embodied every character he has portrayed on screen.

Even though he actively avoids controversy by refraining from interviews unless, for film promotions, he doesn't hold back from expressing his opinions. During the 2020 farm agitation, he publicly voiced his support for the farmers, showcasing his willingness to take a stand for important causes.

This year, Diljit made history as the first Indian artist to perform at Coachella. He took the stage on the second day of the first weekend, joining global music icons such as Blackpink, Charli XCX, Labrinth, and Kid Laroi.

Clad in a traditional all-black Punjabi outfit and sneakers, Diljit offered prayers before his performance, and the crowd greeted him with tremendous cheers and fireworks.

In movies this year, Diljit appeared in Crew and Amar Singh Chamkila, both directed by Imtiaz Ali. His third film of the year, 'Jatt and Juliet 3', is scheduled for release on June 27.
