The trailer of "Gladiator 2," directed by Ridley Scott and serving as a sequel to his 2000 success, was revealed on Tuesday.
Paul Mescal stars as a matured Lucius, the character initially played by Spencer Treat Clark in the original film. The film depicts Lucius' life in the northern African region of Numidia. His mother, Lucilla, originally sent him there to keep him out of the reach of the Roman Empire. However, due to unfolding events, he is compelled to return to Rome as a gladiator.
The narrative takes place two decades after the events of the film starring Russell Crowe.
28-year-old Mescal expressed his enthusiasm for the project.
"I’m so excited to present the first official trailer of Gladiator II. With visionary director Ridley Scott at the helm, Gladiator II promises to deliver the biggest action sequences ever put to film. Enjoy this first look and we truly can’t wait to see you in cinemas this November."
The second movie comes 24 years after the first "Gladiator" film, which featured Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, Spencer Treat Clark, and Oliver Reed as the main actors. It was directed by Scott and released on September 1, 2000.
The movie achieved tremendous success, receiving five Oscars out of 11 nominations. In addition to the Academy Awards, "Gladiator" also secured multiple BAFTA awards and two Golden Globes.
Paramount Pictures revealed the initial movie poster ahead of the trailer release on Monday. The movie is scheduled to debut on November 15 in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu languages.
Pedro Pascal stars alongside Mescal, with Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, Lior Raz, Derek Jacobi, Nielsen, and Denzel Washington completing the ensemble cast.
