Lopez emphasised the “need to cleanse every once in a while.”

Hollywood divas Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Lopez are bonding over an usual shared experience. And no, it has nothing to do with their ex Ben Affleck, who at one point was married to Lopez and at another, engaged to Paltrow.

The stars, who attended the Oscar Actresses Roundtable along with Emily Blunt, Tessa Thompson, Elle Fanning and Sydney Sweeney, shared their approaches to handling online hate and reviews of their work.

“I try to never read anything about myself, full stop, ever. Period,” said Gwyneth, known for her stellar performance in “The Shakespeare in Love”.

To this, Lopez reacted with surprise. She asked, “Wait, not anything about yourself? Ever? Period? Because I don’t read reviews of my films either, but people will bring it to you it when it’s good and you’re like, 'Oh, nice.' But there’s other things they’ll bring you...."

Gwyneth replied, "Sometimes I’ll come upon it,” in response to which Lopez joked, "And you want to die."

Gwyneth agreed: "Want to die! Like when someone forwards you a link to something really horrible about yourself, and they’re like, 'Oh, this is bulls---.' I do try to avoid [that kind of stuff]. I deleted Instagram."

Lopez then emphasised the “need to cleanse every once in a while.” She added that this mentality has worked well for her to push aside negative criticism about her personal life and focus on her work.

The two also reflected on the public backlash they received when they ventured beyond acting in their respective careers.

“When I stepped back to be an entrepreneur around 2008, I really confused and upset people,” Gwyneth recalled. “Nobody understood what I was doing, and I faced a lot of criticism and confusion over the course of the 17 years since I sent out my first Goop newsletter.”

Lopez shared a similar experience from when she stepped into music after successful films like “Selena” and “Out of Sight”.

"It was such a big deal,” she recounted. “People were like, “They’re never going [to] take you seriously as an actor ever again.'”

“But that’s the thing. Everybody’s always trying to tell you: ‘You can only do this,’ or ‘You can only do that.’ You have to just do what feels good for you,” Lopez said.
