HBO has approved a third season of the popular series "House of the Dragon," a spin-off of the epic fantasy show "Game of Thrones." This decision comes shortly before the premiere of the second season on June 17.
“We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular season two, with a scope and scale that is only rivalled by its heart. We could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and watch this team burn bright again for season three," Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President of HBO Programming and head of HBO Drama Series and Films, said in a statement.
"House of the Dragon" debuted on HBO in August 2022 and is an adaptation of George R.R. Martin's book "Fire & Blood", which chronicles the history of House Targaryen 200 years before the events in "Game of Thrones", concluding its eight-season run in 2019.
The show is co-created by Martin and Ryan Condal, who is also the showrunner. Executive producers include Sara Hess, Alan Taylor, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Loni Peristere, and Vince Gerardis.
The cast for the second season of House of the Dragon includes Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D'Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans.
