Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Heeramandi: the Diamond Bazaar" series has been nominated for two awards in the upcoming Asia Contents Awards and Global OTT Awards, which are organised by the Busan International Film Festival.
The show is set in the pre-independence era in India and made its debut on Netflix on May 1. It features Manisha Koirala, Sharmin Segal, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, and Sanjeeda Sheikh in the lead roles, portraying courtesans in the red-light district of Heeramandi in Lahore during the British rule.
Following the success of the first season, the makers have announced a second season. The series has been nominated for Best OTT Original and Best Original Song for "Sakal Ban" at the Asia Contents Awards and Global OTT Awards.
"It's an honour to be nominated for the Asia Contents Awards. I'm grateful to the jury and the audiences for this incredible recognition," Bhansali said in a statement.
Other competitors in the Best OTT Original category include the Korean series "Boyhood," the Korean fantasy mystery thriller "Death’s Game," the popular Chinese series "The Double," the Taiwanese crime comedy series "GG Precinct," and the Korean period drama "Uncle Samsik" (2024).
