Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali has announced that "Laila Majnu" will have a nationwide re-release this Friday. The 2018 film, which features Avinash Tiwary and Triptii Dimri, initially premiered in Srinagar.
Imtiaz Ali, who co-wrote and presented the romance drama directed by his brother Sajid Ali, revealed the news. The movie was produced by Ekta Kapoor and Imtiaz Ali's former wife, Preety.
Despite receiving a lukewarm response during its initial release, "Laila Majnu," a contemporary retelling of a classic love story, has gained a cult following over the years.
Imtiaz expressed gratitude to fans on Instagram, acknowledging their love and support which has resulted in the Hindi film returning to cinema screens six years after its original release.
"Laila Majnu back on popular demand!!! Gratitude to your love that pulled it into theatres again after six years!! Re-releasing 9th Aug ‘24 in cinemas nationwide (check picture) congratulations team LM," he wrote.
The movie, primarily filmed in Jammu and Kashmir, had a second release in Srinagar on August 2.
Tiwary and Dimri, who later worked together on the 2020 Netflix movie "Bulbbul", have made significant progress in their careers.
Tiwary's most recent appearance was in the popular comedy "Madgaon Express", while Dimri is enjoying the success of her recent film "Bad Newz".
