Filmmaker Indira Dhar, who gained recognition with her Bengali debut "Putul," has now turned her attention toward Bollywood.

Her first feature, "Putul," was an independent venture that made waves for its unique storytelling and was in contention for the Oscars in two categories: Best Picture and Best Original Song.

The film stood alongside prestigious Indian entries such as "All We Imagine As Light" and "Girls Will Be Girls," cementing Indira’s reputation as a filmmaker of exceptional caliber.

Indira Dhar, a Kolkata-based director, is a self-made filmmaker and a single parent who has paved her own path in the industry without traditional backing or mentorship.

"Putul" was entirely self-funded, showcasing her unwavering commitment to storytelling. Her latest venture marks her much-anticipated foray into Bollywood with an untitled project featuring critically acclaimed actors Divya Dutta and Neeraj Kabi.

Divya Dutta, who recently impressed audiences with her performance in the blockbuster "Chavva," brings her versatility to the film, while Neeraj Kabi, known for his work as an actor, theatre director, and acting coach, adds another layer of depth to the project.

The film is expected to be a gripping narrative, highlighting Indira’s signature style of raw and emotionally driven storytelling.

Speaking about her Bollywood debut, Indira shared her excitement, stating, "I am thrilled to be making my Bollywood debut with this film, starring the incredible Divya Dutta and Neeraj Kabi. We are in the final stages of completing this project, which is a biopic centered around an Indian Army family, and we’re still in the process of locking a title for the film. Following 'Putul,' which became the first Bengali film to be in contention for Best Picture at the Oscars, I wanted to tell another deeply rooted and emotionally resonant story. My focus has always been on authentic storytelling through live-action filmmaking, and I have given my all to do justice to this subject. I hope this film finds its audience, has a fulfilling journey, and that our collective efforts pay off."

Indira Dhar’s fearless approach to filmmaking has made her an emerging name in Indian cinema. As she steps into Bollywood with her latest project, her transition from an independent filmmaker to an internationally recognised director stands as an inspiration.

With a keen eye for authenticity and emotionally compelling narratives, Indira’s Bollywood debut is shaping up to be a film worth watching, further cementing her place as a storyteller to watch out for.
