The film was previously set to feature Andrew Garfield, but the actor quit the project due to scheduling conflicts.

Actor Jacob Elordi, who is up for best supporting actor at the 98th Academy Awards for “Frankenstein”, has revealed that his award-nominating turn in Guillermo del Toro’s epic adaptation may not have happened if he had listened to his mother. Because it turns out she tried to dissuade him from ever working with del Toro long before Elordi had even become an actor.

The 28-year-old actor, who essayed the role of a monstrous creation in the 2025 film, said his mother warned him in his childhood not to work with the filmmaker after she clocked the creepy-looking DVD cover of del Toro's 2006 directorial, “Pan’s Labyrinth.”

“Frankenstein” has received 9 nominations for the 98th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor for Elordi.

"And I saw the tree and the little girl, and I turned it around, the DVD case, and I saw the Pale Man. And I remember thinking, what is that," Elrodi said.

Although the film was rated “M”, which stands for “mature” under the Australian film classification system, the actor was allowed to watch the film, but under a condition. "She (mother) said you must never work with this man," the "Euphoria" star added.

Elordi said he got excited about the film when he read the screenplay. "So excited and so sure when I read the screenplay for the first time, that I had no fear… there’s no other filmmaker on this planet that could make a truly great ‘Frankenstein’ film," he said.

The film also starred Mia Goth and Oscar Isaac and revolved around a brilliant but egotistical scientist, who brings a monstrous creature to life in a daring experiment. It released on October 17, 2025.
