Filmmaker Karan Johar has expressed his intention to reintroduce the iconic movie "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham" to theatres on its 25th anniversary, citing the growing trend of re-releasing films as "fantastic."

 

The 2001 family drama, often abbreviated as K3G, featured Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Jaya Bachchan, Kajol, Kareena Kapoor, and Rani Mukherjee, marking Johar's second directorial venture which garnered immense box office success.

 

"At the trailer launch of Dharma Productions’ upcoming romantic comedy 'Bad Newz', Johar disclosed his plan, spotlighting the film's anticipated milestone in two years. 'I feel when K3G’s 25 years is completed, we should re-release the film,' he remarked, adding that he personally refrains from watching his own films after their initial completion," Johar conveyed to media persons.

 

Johar highlighted the nostalgic impact of revisiting classic films, noting the recent positive reception to the re-release of 'Rockstar' and retrospectives honouring filmmakers like Zoya Akhtar.

 

"As audiences who grew up with these films reminisce, re-releasing them is a testament to the enduring charm of Hindi cinema," he affirmed.

 

Expressing enthusiasm for the resurgence of cinematic gems, Johar underscored the cultural significance of reminding audiences of Bollywood's rich legacy spanning the 80s, 90s, and 00s.

 

"We should constantly remind everybody that Hindi cinema rocks," he asserted, advocating for the continuation of the re-release trend.

 

Directed by Anand Tiwari, "Bad Newz" features Vicky Kaushal, Tripti Dimri, and Ammy Virk in pivotal roles, marking a collaboration between Kaushal and Tiwari after their successful venture with "Love Per Square Foot" (2018).
