"Emergency," featuring actor-MP Kangana Ranaut, is set to be released on September 6, as announced by the production team on Tuesday.
This announcement follows Ranaut's swearing-in as the BJP MP from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, during the inaugural session of the 18th Lok Sabha.
The release of the historical political film has faced several delays. It was previously slated for November 24, 2023.
Ranaut, who serves as the lead actor, writer, director, and producer of "Emergency," has cited William Shakespeare's play "The Tragedy of Macbeth" as a major source of inspiration for her upcoming movie.
"I am deeply inspired by William Shakespeare's 'Macbeth'. The essence of Emergency is the destruction wrought when ambition goes unchecked by moral constraints. It is undoubtedly the most sensational chapter of Indian democracy, and I am eagerly awaiting its worldwide release on 6th September 2024," the actor, who plays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film, said in a statement.
In an X post, Ranaut announced the release of her movie Emergency to mark the "beginning of the 50th year of independent India's darkest chapter."
"The Explosive Saga of The Most Controversial Episode of The History of Indian Democracy," she added.
"Emergency" features Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik in significant roles. Zee Studios and Ranaut's Manikarnika Films are behind its production.
