The President of the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC), Anil Thomas, met the Kerala Minister for Cinema, Tourism and Cultural Affairs, PC Vishnunadh, on Tuesday to discuss taxation and other pressing concerns affecting the Malayalam film industry. After the meeting, while addressing reporters, Thomas observed that the state government was committed to acting effectively to counter piracy and other problems associated with it. He emphasised that the talks were extensive and that it was the first time that all the players in the industry came together, and he was optimistic that the incoming government would do the needful.
Piracy is a serious issue affecting the film industry in India, with Jana Nayagan, the new Tamil film, becoming the most recent victim of such an act. The production company of 'Jana Nayagan', KVN Productions, has made an official warning to the general public, asking them not to leak or watch the film in its leaked version, since the film had already been leaked on the internet.
Describing the leak as a severe case of digital piracy, the production team warned that downloading, viewing, storing, or forwarding the leaked content across platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, and X constitutes a criminal offence and a breach of copyright laws. The banner emphasised that every digital action is traceable, adding that forensic investigations have already been launched to identify everyone involved in the chain of circulation. The film, which stars Vijay in the lead role and is directed by H Vinoth, was originally scheduled for a major theatrical release on January 9.
