Kriti Sanon calls out inequality in B-town

The actress said gender equality is not about grand gestures but about everyday fairness.

News Arena Network - Mumbai - UPDATED: September 2, 2025, 04:57 PM - 2 min read

On the work front, Kriti was last seen on screen in the film “Do Patti” with Kajol.

Actor Kriti Sanon is bringing attention to gender inequity in Bollywood and is speaking out against the subtle biases that exist in the industry. In light of her own background and upbringing, the actress has called for women to be treated equally on movie sets, stressing that fair treatment is about respect rather than benefits like nicer cars or rooms.

Sanon, who has been announced as UNFPA India's honorary ambassador of Gender Equality, reflected upon her own experiences with gender norms in an interview. Revealing that even though her own family was progressive, the inequality around her was impossible to overlook.

Kriti said gender equality is not about grand gestures but about everyday fairness—things that should start at home, in classrooms, on sets, and in workplaces.

The 35-year-old actress said, “Both my parents are working. Both of them take up household responsibilities equally. The atmosphere at home has been such that neither I nor Nupur have ever seen gender inequality. But, Kriti said that some things were quite different with my mother.”

The actress also said there is inequality in the film industry. She admitted that she hasn’t faced anything extreme but emphasised that there is still a long way to go.

“This does not happen every time, but sometimes male actors get better cars and better rooms. This is not about the car. Rather, it is about not making me feel small because I am a woman. I just want equal status,” she said.

Emphasising how habitual behaviours are frequently overlooked, she added: “Sometimes, some small behaviours also show this to you. Like sometimes it also happens that the AD calls the female actors first and makes the male actors wait. I have to tell you not to do this. This mind set has to be changed.”
