Legal dispute clouds release of 'Jolly LLB 3'

ADBA president Chandrabhan Singh Rathod filed a complaint against the film's creators, seeking a court order to stop production and issue a notice to the filmmakers.

The highly anticipated courtroom comedy sequel, 'Jolly LLB 3,' starring Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi, finds itself embroiled in legal controversy.

A complaint filed before the Civil Judge Ajmer North by the Ajmer District Bar Association (ADBA) alleges the film portrays lawyers and judges in a disrespectful and unfitting manner.

The complaint, lodged by ADBA president Chandrabhan Singh Rathod, targets the film's producers, directors, and actors. It seeks a court order halting production and issuing a notice to the filmmakers.

"There appears to be a complete disregard for the dignity and prestige of the Indian judiciary enshrined in our Constitution," Rathod is quoted as saying.

He highlights ongoing filming in Ajmer, expressing concern that the portrayal of legal proceedings does not reflect reality.

Rathod takes particular umbrage with what he describes as a comedic yet disrespectful depiction of lawyers and judges. He fears this will undermine public trust in the judicial system and the integrity of legal professionals.

The crux of the complaint lies in urging the filmmakers to rectify these perceived misrepresentations during production.

Specific scenes cited as problematic include a lawyer being kicked, a judge indulging in 'gutkha' (a form of chewing tobacco), and financial transactions – all of which, according to Rathod, severely mar the dignity of the court and its officers.

"Our complaint demands that these issues be addressed during filming. We urge the court to issue a notice to the makers and potentially impose a ban," Rathod asserted.

The 'Jolly LLB' franchise, known for its lighthearted courtroom dramedy, has garnered significant commercial success.

The first film released in 2013, followed by a sequel in 2017. 'Jolly LLB 3' is expected to see Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi reprise their starring roles, with Saurabh Shukla returning as the judge.
