“The Hunger Games” star Leven Rambin has opened up about a terrifying, life-threatening medical emergency.
What was supposed to be a routine laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis took a harrowing turn when the operating surgeon accidentally nicked her aorta, the body’s largest artery.
Taking to her TikTok account to document the health scare, the 36-year-old actress revealed that she woke up in the intensive care unit surrounded by physicians who told her she was "lucky to be alive" after requiring an immediate emergency vascular repair and blood transfusions.
"I went in for a routine endo laparoscopy," Rambin wrote in a TikTok video from her hospital bed.
"I had a Netflix job I needed to be at in 2 weeks and my doc said I would be fine. I woke up after surgery to many doctors and surgeons telling me they 'saved my life' after the dr accidentally KNICKED [sic] my aorta," she added.

"They immediately performed repair surgery and [a] blood transfusion," she continued.
Though the medical crisis forced the “Fire Country” actress to drop out of her upcoming Netflix series abruptly, the harrowing experience did confirm a diagnosis of stage 1 endometriosis and polyps. Endometriosis is a painful condition where tissue similar to the uterine lining aggressively grows outside the uterus.
The moment Rambin regained consciousness in the ICU and realised the severity of the medical emergency, she immediately confronted the operating surgeon, demanding answers about how a standard laparoscopy resulted in a near-fatal major artery puncture.
"The first thing I said to her, through my anesthesia, was, 'Is this your fault?’ She said, 'Yes, it's my fault.' I said, 'Aren’t you a specialist?' And she said, 'I'm human,'" the actress recounted in another TikTok video.
"I'm pissed, obviously, but I understand it was a 'risk' like anything," Rambin admitted. "It was a one-in-a-million 'freak accident.'"
Still recovering in the hospital, the “All My Children” star confessed to feeling a rollercoaster of emotions in her latest social media updates. Moving forward through the medical trauma, she continues to share raw, honest updates with fans about her physical and emotional healing process.
"The road to recovery will be long but I am determined to heal & start my family," she wrote in a July 12 Instagram post, which featured photos and videos of her in the hospital. "Oh how I love being a woman."
