"Michael", the biographical drama based on the life of legendary pop icon Michael Jackson, has achieved a major milestone at the worldwide box-office by earning more than USD 977.5 million globally. With this feat, the film has become the highest-grossing biopic of all time, surpassing the worldwide earnings of Christopher Nolan's Oscar-winning blockbuster "Oppenheimer".
"Michael" has overtaken "Oppenheimer", which concluded its theatrical run with approximately USD 975 million in global box office collections. The film has also set a new benchmark for musical biopics, eclipsing the previous record held by 2018's "Bohemian Rhapsody", which grossed USD 911 million worldwide during its successful theatrical run.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Antoine Fuqua, known for directing "Training Day", "The Equalizer" franchise and several other acclaimed projects, "Michael" hit theatres on April 24. The film stars Jaafar Jackson, the nephew of Michael Jackson, in the lead role, marking his acting debut as he portrays the King of Pop in one of the most anticipated musical biopics in recent years.
