Cillian Murphy clinched the Best Actor award for his nuanced portrayal of Robert Oppenheimer, a win that seemed almost predestined despite Murphy's tendency to shy away from the spotlight. His acceptance speech underlined his pride as an Irishman and acknowledged the significant influence of Oppenheimer on our world today.




Murphy, who gained fame for his iconic role as Thomas Shelby in the series 'Peaky Blinders',  has featured in many of Nolan's earlier films, such as Inception and the Batman series.

 

Robert Downey Jr. was awarded Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Lewis Strauss in 'Oppenheimer', marking a standout performance as the film's antagonist.

 



Downey, who became the highest-earning actor of all time after his role in 'Avengers: Endgame', said that this was the highest point of his life.

Nolan, a director known for his cinematic masterpieces such as Interstellar, Inception, Dunkirk, The Prestige, The Dark Knight rises, finally got his flowers after eight nominations over the years.

 

The 'Oppenheimer' film's accolades continued with Jennifer Lame winning for her exceptional editing, further cementing the movie's triumph at the Oscars.

 

The film 'Oppenheimer' also took home an Oscar for Best Original Score, credited to Ludwig Göransson. His victory speech gave a nod to Nolan's creative suggestion to incorporate more violin, highlighting their collaborative spirit.

 

The night continued to celebrate 'Oppenheimer' as Hoyte van Hoytema won for his cinematography, humorously commenting on the oddity yet honour of holding his Oscar statue.
