Following massive social media speculation about a potential fallout with actor Parineeti Chopra, Olympian and former world number 1 shuttler Sania Nehwal has finally broken her silence.
Addressing the rumours, the athlete clarified that there is no personal conflict with Parineeti, who played Saina Nehwal in her biopic “Saina”. Released in 2021, the Amole Gupte directorial traced Nehwal’s journey from a young girl in Hyderabad to becoming the top shuttler and an Olympic medallist.
Nehwal noted that their relationship remained professional rather than a close friendship.
Fans recently noticed that Chopra does not follow Nehwal on Instagram, even though the athlete had followed the actor earlier. The observation quickly snowballed into online chatter about a possible rift between the two.

Nehwal said she never really noticed the follow-unfollow talk and stressed that there was no personal issue involved.
“Actually, I did not notice this, and it never really caught my attention,” Nehwal said, adding that their interaction was limited to work related to the film and nothing beyond. She added that her packed schedule left little time for socialising outside professional commitments.
Sharing further about how her meetings with Parineeti, Saina said, “It was totally professional work for which she was there, and I knew that. I was busy with my training. I also could not give so much of time. We never really went out for dinners or lunches. That never happened. Whenever we met for an hour or two, once every two or three weeks, the director was always there.”
She continued, “We did not really form any close friendship for things like following or unfollowing each other."
Notably, as of January 30, neither Saina nor Parineeti follow each other on Instagram.
