Filming for the highly anticipated sequel to Matt Reeves' "The Batman" is set to begin next year, according to co-writer Mattson Tomlin.

The Warner Bros. production, which faced delays, will see Robert Pattinson reprising his role as the iconic superhero, alongside returning stars Zoë Kravitz, Colin Farrell, and Jeffrey Wright.

Tomlin, who co-wrote the script with Reeves, shared his excitement and the immense pressure surrounding the project.

"It's shooting next year. We're gearing up, and I will say that the bar just couldn't be higher. It's the sequel to the first one. But also, Matt is like no other," Tomlin told entertainment outlet Screen Rant.

Reflecting on his collaboration with Reeves, Tomlin pointed out the director's unique approach and dedication to the craft.

"In the five years now that I've been working with him as closely as I have, I've tried to absorb as much as humanly possible from him. He's a true artist operating in a world where sometimes art doesn't get to flourish, and he's trying to make something that really matters," he added.

Warner Bros. officially greenlit the sequel to "The Batman" during a CinemaCon presentation in 2022, just a month after the first film’s theatrical release.

The 2022 film saw Pattinson don the cape and cowl as Batman, who has been fighting crime in Gotham City for two years while uncovering corruption and pursuing the Riddler, played by Paul Dano.

The movie also featured Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Wright as James Gordon, Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.

"The Batman" proved to be a major box office success, grossing over USD 750 million globally. With the bar set high, the sequel is expected to continue the story with the same intensity and artistic vision.
