"Dearest gentle reader: We have been apart for far too long," is how Lady Whistledown begins the trailer to the third season of "Bridgerton."
The highly anticipated season three of the hit Netflix show centres on Nicola Coughlin's Penelope -- Whistledown's secret alter-ego -- pursuit of love.
In the new teaser for season 3, Penelope looks like a breath of fresh air. She is no longer pining for Luke Newton's Colin Bridgerton but is ready to take a path of her own. Penelope is finding a new match for herself, but as we all know, the path to romance is treacherous.
"It seems as though every Bridgerton was born to attract notice. For some of us, the notice is very slight," she laments.
To make matters more complicated, Colin has returned with "a new look and a serious sense of swagger," says Lady Whistledown as she narrates the teaser.
However, Colin is visibly dismayed to find Penelope's lost affection. In her pursuit, he offers to find her a suitable match - also a way to spend more time with her.
"But when his lessons start working a little too well, Colin must grapple with whether his feelings for Penelope are truly just friendly," says Lady Whistledown.
The glowed-up Penelope soon gets noticed by the charming Lord Debling. Caught between the allure of security and her true feelings, Penelope grapples with the age-old question: logic or love?
As Lady Whistledown muses, "What is the primary force that guides us along our paths? Is it our minds or our hearts?"
Bridgerton Season 3 Part 1 debuts May 16. Part 2 drops June 13.
