Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant are set to marry in Mumbai, and reports suggest that India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend.
Despite receiving personal invitations from billionaire industrialist Mukesh Ambani, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi are unlikely to attend the wedding.
The reason for their absence is currently unknown.
The wedding ceremony between Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant, who is the daughter of pharma tycoons Viren and Shaila Merchant, will take place at the Jio World Convention Center in Mumbai.
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has already arrived in Mumbai for the event.
While leaving for Mumbai, the politician told PTI at Kolkata airport, “I might not have gone (to attend Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s wedding) but all of the family members from Nita ji to Mukesh ji everyone is requesting me to attend the wedding again and again, that is why I am going.” Banerjee also added she will also be meeting NCP president Sharad and Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Uddhav Thackeray.
According to an ABP report, Mukesh Ambani personally went to Congress leader Sonia Gandhi's residence at 10 Janpath on July 4, 2024, to extend an invitation to her and Rahul Gandhi for his upcoming wedding.
It was expected, though, that Rahul Gandhi would decline the invitation due to his prior criticisms of the Ambani family during his recent election campaign. Unexpectedly, Sonia Gandhi's family has maintained a close bond with the Ambanis ever since Dhirubhai Ambani's time.
