Ram Charan's much-awaited sports action drama ‘Peddi’ has made a thunderous start at the global box-office, emerging as one of the biggest openers of the year. The film grossed an impressive Rs 135.36 crore worldwide on its opening day, underscoring the massive popularity of the actor and the strong anticipation surrounding the project.
Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, ‘Peddi’ hit theatres across India and several international markets on Thursday. The film has not only drawn large crowds to cinemas but has also received encouraging reviews from critics and audiences alike, who have praised its emotional storytelling, powerful performances and high-octane action sequences.
Production house Vriddhi Cinemas announced the opening-day box office figures through a celebratory post on Instagram. Sharing the achievement with fans, the banner wrote, "Box office CHAMPION - #PEDDI SIR... Rs 135.36 CR+ gross worldwide on Day 1... Meet #PEDDI now in cinemas."
The remarkable opening marks a significant milestone for Ram Charan, who returns to box-office glory after the underwhelming performance of his previous release, ‘Game Changer’. Industry observers view the film's strong start as a reaffirmation of the actor's star power and his ability to draw audiences to theatres.
Set against the backdrop of rural Andhra Pradesh in the 1980s, ‘Peddi’ tells the inspiring story of a young man from a marginalised lower-caste community who takes up wrestling as a means to earn respect, challenge social barriers and bring dignity to his people. Blending sports drama with themes of social justice, identity and perseverance, the film presents an emotionally charged narrative rooted in the realities of village life.
Ram Charan leads the cast in the titular role of Peddi, delivering a performance that has already generated widespread appreciation from fans. Veteran Kannada star Shiva Rajkumar plays his mentor, Gournaidu, a pivotal character who guides Peddi on his journey.
