Regé-Jean Page doesn't want rom-coms to die

"The idea that the rom-com is dead. Love definitely isn't dead. Love will save us. And I think that I'm happy to wave that flag,” the 38-year-old “Bridgerton” star said.

The actor added that a lot of “rom-coms are about having aspirations.”

The rom-com isn’t going anywhere, at least not on Regé-Jean Page’s watch.

The British actor plays Michael in the upcoming romantic-comedy film “You, Me and Tuscany” alongside Halle Bailey, who plays Anna. The film releases across theatres on April 10.

Page had an interesting reason to take on the film. He said the lack of recent rom-coms, a genre that some believe to be dying in Hollywood, played a role in his decision to sign the project.

"The idea that the rom-com is dead. Love definitely isn't dead. Love will save us. And I think that I'm happy to wave that flag,” the 38-year-old “Bridgerton” star said.

Page added that a lot of “rom-coms are about having aspirations.”

"About having aspirations that you can step into your best life through trusting other people, through discovering how to solve your problems with other... How to talk through your problems."

"Every movie doesn't have to be the one that punches hardest," Page continued. "So, I'm conscious about talking it out and finding peace with yourself and other people. And it was a joy to do that."

"We shot in Tuscany. It was Rome, five or six weeks in Tuscany. We were just out in the sunshine, driving through vineyards," he explained. "I ran my hand through that field of wheat that Russell Crowe goes through at the beginning of ‘Gladiator’. Food was incredible."

"And I got to work with Halle Bailey every day," he added. "So, we were just having a great time. We were having a great time making a movie about stepping into your best life," he said.

In the film, Page’s character falls for Anna, played by Halle Bailey, his cousin's fake fiancée.

After Anna gets caught squatting in a Tuscan villa, she lies about being engaged to the woman's son. However, this lie gets tricky when she meets the handsome Michael and love blossoms.

Page previously turned heads as the dashing Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings, in season 1 of “Bridgerton”, which earned him an Emmy nomination. Since then, he's appeared in films like  “The Gray Man” (2022) and “Black Bag” (2025).
