Salman Khan has explained the meaning behind his much-discussed statement that he was a virgin during his earlier appearance on Karan Johar’s chat show. The actor revisited the remark on Koffee With Karan Season 9, years after it became a subject of jokes, memes and public curiosity.
When Karan Johar asked him, “Are you still a virgin?”, Salman laughed and said the answer was his way of making it clear that he did not want to discuss his relationships.
Salman explained that people may date someone who later moves on and marries another person. He said he has always avoided speaking publicly about his relationships because it is impossible to know whether a person being seen with him at a particular time will remain part of his life permanently.
Reflecting on advice he received from his father, writer Salim Khan, the actor said he had understood the importance of keeping private matters away from public discussion from the age of 15 or 16. He recalled the principle that what can be discussed in the living room may be shared with the country, while matters belonging in the bedroom should remain private.
During his 2013 appearance on Koffee With Karan, Salman had been questioned about his love life and whether he was a virgin. He had replied that he was and added that he wanted to save himself for the woman he would marry. He had also joked that the women he had spent time with were only his friends.
On the professional front, Salman Khan will next be seen in Maatrubhumi. The film will be followed by Vamshi Paidipally’s SVC63, which also stars Nayanthara.
