Bollywood actor Salman Khan has received yet another death threat, this time via a WhatsApp message sent to the Mumbai Traffic Police helpline, prompting police to register a case and begin an investigation, according to multiple news reports published on Monday morning.
The threatening message reportedly warned of plans to enter Khan’s home and assassinate him, while also threatening to blow up his car with a bomb. The actor resides at Galaxy Apartments in Bandra, Mumbai, with his family.
This is the fifth time in two years that the 58-year-old actor has received threats to his life. The most serious of them came last year, when gunshots were fired at his residence by assailants allegedly linked to the Bishnoi gang. Security for the actor was subsequently heightened.
A Mumbai Police source confirmed that a case against unknown individuals has been filed following the receipt of the threat. Authorities are now in the process of tracing the origin of the WhatsApp message.
Over the past two years, both Salman Khan and his father, veteran screenwriter Salim Khan, have faced multiple threats.
According to investigators, a plot was uncovered last year that involved plans to assassinate Khan at his Panvel farmhouse. The shooters were allegedly keeping watch on his movements in preparation for the attack.
Lawrence Bishnoi, a notorious gangster, has on several occasions publicly expressed enmity towards the actor, which reportedly stems from the blackbuck poaching case dating back to the late 1990s.
Bishnoi, whose community holds the blackbuck sacred, had earlier warned Khan to travel to Rajasthan and apologise for the alleged killing of the animal or face dire consequences.
Although the court has since dismissed the poaching case against Khan, the threats have not ceased.
The latest development has again drawn public attention to the persistent security concerns surrounding the actor.
Salman’s recent work
The actor was last seen in AR Murugadoss’ Bollywood return film Sikandar, which opened in cinemas on Eid. Despite early expectations, the film has managed modest earnings, grossing over ₹200 crore worldwide and ₹109 crore in India. Trade analysts suggest that it may not cross the ₹250 crore mark.
