Stand-up comedian Samay Raina appeared before the Guwahati Crime Branch on Saturday in connection with a case filed against him and several other content creators for allegedly promoting obscenity and vulgarity through the YouTube show India’s Got Latent.

Raina had earlier informed the police that he would be unable to appear as he was abroad for his comedy tour. However, he complied with the summons this weekend and recorded his statement with the investigating officer.

Speaking to ANI, Joint Police Commissioner Ankur Jain said, “Police questioned Samay Raina and recorded his statement in connection to the case.”

The case dates back to 10 February, when Guwahati Police registered an FIR against multiple YouTubers and social media influencers — including Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, Ranveer Allahbadia, and Samay Raina — for promoting vulgar discussions on the show.

The Guwahati Crime Branch registered the case under Cyber PS case no. 03/2025. Charges have been framed under Sections 79, 95, 294, and 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, read with Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000, Sections 4 and 7 of the Cinematograph Act, 1952, and Sections 4 and 6 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.

Previously, Ashish Chanchlani, Apoorva Makhija, Ranveer Allahbadia, and others had also appeared before the Guwahati Crime Branch for questioning.

In light of the ongoing legal proceedings, Raina recently announced the rescheduling of his India tour. Posting on Instagram, he said: “Hello guys, I am rescheduling my India tour. You all will get the refunds shortly, see you soon.”

Joint Police Commissioner Jain confirmed that legal notices had been served to all individuals named in the FIR. “We have served notices, but they have not complied yet. We are looking into the matter as per legal procedure and will take action accordingly,” he said.

The controversy surrounding India’s Got Latent intensified after podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia made controversial remarks during a recent episode. His comment involving a contestant’s parents drew public ire and went viral across social media platforms.

Allahbadia later issued a public apology, saying, “My comment wasn't just inappropriate, it wasn't even funny. Comedy is not my forte, I am just here to say sorry.”

He added: “Family is the last thing that I would ever disrespect,” pledging to use his platform more responsibly in future.

Another individual associated with the show, Rakesh Sawant, was summoned by the Maharashtra Cyber Cell and appeared to record her statement on 27 February.
