Renowned Kannada actor, producer and director Dwarakish, 81, passed away on Tuesday. According to reports, he died at his home in Bengaluru after complaining of respiratory issues.

 

Dwarakish’s family is yet to share details regarding the funeral. Fans, friends and colleagues took to social media to pay tribute to the legend.

 

Superstar Rajinikanth remembered his dear friend Dwarakish and wrote that his demise is quite painful for him. “The demise of my long time dear friend Dwarakesh is very painful to me… starting his career as a comedian, he raised himself up to being a big producer and director… fond memories come to my mind… my heartfelt condolences to his family and dear ones (sic),” his post read.

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his grief over the demise of the veteran actor. He wrote, “Dwarakish Ji’s contributions to the film industry are immense, spanning decades of unforgettable performances and groundbreaking films. His ability to captivate audiences and support young talent gave a glimpse of his multifaceted role in shaping Kannada cinema. Saddened by his passing away. We will always remember his extraordinary journey. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”

 

Indian cricketer Anil Kumble took to his official X (formerly known as Twitter) page to remember Dwarakish. His post read, “Deeply saddened by the passing of veteran actor Dwarakish Sir…. Grew up watching his movies. His contribution to the film world will always be remembered (sic).”

 

Dwarakish made his debut in the Kannada film industry as an actor with Veera Sankalpa in 1964. He played a comedian in his maternal uncle, Hunsur Krishnamurthu’s film. Eventually, he became a producer by floating his banner, Dwarakish Chitra, and produced over 50 films.

 

His first production venture was Mayor Muthanna, which marked his first collaboration with Dr Rajkumar and director Siddalingaiah. The film became a blockbuster and is regarded as a classic.

 

Dwarakish and actor Dr Vishnuvardhan collaborated on many projects and gave many memorable films for their fans. Some of them include Kalla Kulla, Kittu Puttu, Apthamitra, and others.

 

Dwarakish directed 19 films and also acted in many projects.
