Actor Sanya Malhotra expressed her condolences on Sunday over the passing of Suhani Bhatnagar, best known for her portrayal of young Babita Phogat in the Aamir Khan-starrer wrestling drama "Dangal".
Bhatnagar, aged 19, succumbed to Dermatomyositis, a rare inflammatory disease causing skin rash and muscle weakness, as confirmed by her family. She was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences on February 7 and passed away on February 16 due to medical complications.
Malhotra, who portrayed the adult version of Babita Phogat in the Nitesh Tiwari-directed film, shared her heartfelt tribute to Bhatnagar on her Instagram Stories, reminiscing about her uniqueness and talent. "I can't believe it's real. There was no one quite like our Suhani. She was so special, so talented, and way too young to have left us so soon. Rest in peace Chotu My deepest condolences to Pooja, Puneet and the entire family," wrote the actor.
Hailing from Sector-17 in Faridabad, Bhatnagar's final rites were conducted at the Ajronda cremation ground in the city.
The young actor gained prominence for her role in "Dangal", the 2016 biographical drama portraying the story of a wrestler who mentors his daughters to success.
The movie also starred Zaira Wasim as young Geeta and Fatima Sana Shaikh as the elder version of the character. Aamir Khan portrayed the role of Mahavir Phogat, the father of Geeta and Babita.
Director Nitesh Tiwari and Aamir Khan's production house, Aamir Khan Productions, also extended their condolences on Bhatnagar's untimely demise.
The news of Suhani Bhatnagar's passing has left the industry mourning the loss of a talented young actor, whose contribution to "Dangal" will be remembered fondly.
