Face masks aren't "necessary for kids. I also don't think masks are necessary for us," Mitchell said.

After facing backlash over, Rini, her skincare line for children, actor and wellness entrepreneur Shay Mitchell has now addressed the issue.

During an appearance on the "Today" show co-hosted by Jenna Bush Hager and guest Olivia Munn, Shay said: "I was a little surprised. Anything that involves kids, there should be a conversation around it. I have a lot of questions, as I'm sure you both do, when anything involves our kids—with what they eat and what they put on their skin—so I didn't think this would be anything different."

Face masks aren't "necessary for kids. I also don't think masks are necessary for us," Mitchell reflected on the show. "But are they great for added comfort and extra hydration? Yes, and that's all it is."

The 38-year-old "Pretty Little Liars" star, who is mother to girls Atlas (6) and Rome (3), launched Rini on November 6. The line features dermatologist-tested, hypoallergenic and vegan products, including various face masks for children aged 4 and up. Mitchell said Rini meets a growing demand of interest in skincare among children.

However, Mitchell's child-friendly beauty brand drew harsh criticism on social media, with many questioning the appropriateness of the same.
