Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, the first biological daughter among the six children shared by Hollywood's former power couple, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, filed a formal petition in court on May 27, the day she turned 18, to drop her father's surname and be known as Shiloh Jolie.
The couple's troubled relationship came to an end in 2016 when Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt, but both are contesting various claims, including the sale of their French winery Chateau Miraval.
They got married in 2014 and the divorce petition followed an incident in which Jolie alleged Pitt had been violent with her and also attacked two of their children aboard an aeroplane.
He had also verbally abused and poured alcohol over their family on the flight, she alleged.
The Brad-Pitt children have often skipped using their father's surname. A video which surfaced sometime in 2023 showed Zahara, the couple's eldest daughter, referring to herself as Zahara Marley Jolie while introducing herself in her college sorority group.
Vivienne, the couple's 15-year-old daughter, did not mention Pitt in her surname in the listing of the cast and production crew for a Broadway show.
Shiloh, however, is the first one to take the legal route to drop Pitt's name.
A prolonged custody battle between Jolie and Pitt also resulted in the latter being awarded joint custody in 2021.
Pitt also sued Jolie in February 2022 for allegedly selling her stake in the winery without his consent, with legal documents claiming intention to "inflict harm" as the sale was made to a Russian oligarch.
Pitt and Jolie share six children: Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh, Pax, Knox and Vivienne.
