Simi Garewal with former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on her show - Stills from the interview

Actress and popular television personality Simi Garewal took to X late Friday night to share a clip from her famous interview with former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan.

She posted a 1.38-minute video clip in which Khan talks about India, its leaders and its democracy.

"I thought it somewhat fitting to post this clip from my throwback 'Rendezvous with Imran Khan', where he talks about India's democracy.. and Pandit Nehru.. #ImranKhan," she wrote in the post accompanying the clip.

In the clip, Khan speaks about fighting for a fair democratic system in Pakistan.

"Unfortunately, that has eluded us. You are much better in India, where, despite your imperfect democracy, you have finally become a strong democracy. You have a sitting government that loses elections and an Election Commission that is powerful enough to subdue a prime minister. That is why India has forged ahead of Pakistan in the last fourteen years," says Khan.

"I have a firm belief that there is no system better than democracy. Despite all its imperfections, it is the only system with a self-corrective mechanism, if given a chance," he says.

Simi then asks Khan why democracy hasn't taken root in Pakistan, to which Khan replies with praise for India's first Prime Minister, Pt Jawaharlal Nehru and the democratic institutions he built.

"We weren't fortunate enough to have a great leader, Mohammad Ali Jinnah, to stay long. He died immediately after Independence. And you were fortunate enough to have Jawaharlal Nehru, who set the ball rolling. He built these democratic institutions. The post-colonial world hasn't been able to come to terms with democracy. You are very fortunate to have a man, a leader, who was able to make that transition into democracy easier. In our country, our great leader died, and we just faltered from one crisis to another until the military took over. "

Garewal's post had over 400 retweets and nearly 47,000 views at the time of writing this story.
