Renowned singer Sona Mohapatra has expressed strong disapproval of comments made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding Bollywood actor Aishwarya Rai, labeling them as demeaning and a ploy to gain favor.

In a scathing critique posted on X (formerly Twitter), Mohapatra questioned the trend of politicians resorting to belittling women in their speeches for political mileage. She directly addressed Rahul Gandhi, suggesting that despite any personal grievances he may have faced, he should refrain from such behavior. Mohapatra also lauded Aishwarya Rai's talents, particularly her prowess in dance.

Rahul Gandhi's remarks came during a recent public address as part of the 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. He singled out Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, questioning the absence of members from Other Backward Classes (OBCs) at a recent event where the two Bollywood figures were present.

While Aishwarya Rai was not in attendance at the ceremony, her husband Abhishek Bachchan and father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan were present. Rahul Gandhi's comments sparked controversy, with many criticizing him for targeting Aishwarya Rai in his political discourse.

In response to criticism, Mohapatra doubled down on her stance, rejecting claims that Rahul Gandhi's mention of Amitabh Bachchan alongside Aishwarya Rai mitigates the impact of his comments. She emphasized the derogatory nature of referencing Aishwarya Rai's profession as a dancer in such a context.

Earlier, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) condemned Rahul Gandhi's remarks, accusing him of demeaning Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and sinking to a new low in his political rhetoric. The Karnataka BJP, in particular, criticized Rahul Gandhi for insulting a "fellow Kannadiga" and criticized him for targeting Aishwarya Rai, a figure they described as bringing glory to India.
