Sophie Dhawan has spoken about her "bittersweet" experience of witnessing a cricket match at the famous Lord’s Cricket Ground for the very first time, following her attendance at the highly important match between India and Australia of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 Group A. She had seen the match along with her husband Shikhar Dhawan, Ravi Shastri, Virat Kohli, and Anushka Sharma. The marquee fixture at the iconic London venue on Sunday, June 28, drew a host of high-profile names from Indian cricket. Kohli and his wife Anushka, Shastri, and the former India opener Shikhar Dhawan were all spotted in the pavilion stands as they cheered on Harmanpreet Kaur's side in a must-win encounter.
Following the match, Sophie took to Instagram to share a carousel of photographs from the day, featuring herself alongside the star-studded group. The post also included personal selfies with Shikhar and Anushka, giving fans a closer glimpse of the high-profile outing at the historic ground. Reflecting on her first visit to the "Home of Cricket", Sophie wrote: "A bittersweet visit for my first time watching a game at Lords but what an atmosphere. 27,163 fans, a record-breaking crowd, and another reminder of just how far the women's game has come."
The match itself saw Australia Women seal a six-wicket victory over India Women to secure their semi-final spot, ultimately eliminating India from the tournament. With a record target of 171 set, the team scored 172 runs for four wickets in 19 overs. This run chase was due to the partnership of unbeaten fifty runs by both Ellyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner as they stabilised the innings despite losing three wickets for 72 runs in the process. In the earlier part of the game, a brutal inning by the captain of the Indian women's team Harmanpreet Kaur, who contributed 56 runs in 27 balls, led India to score 170 runs for four wickets.
