After Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey, Sony and Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day has crossed the $1 billion mark in international markets just 12 days after its official release.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become the second-fastest film to do so after Avengers: Endgame. The Destin Daniel Cretton movie is now the 12th highest-grossing film ever at the worldwide box office, with $1.67 billion ($655 million domestic, $1.01 billion overseas).
The latest Spider-Man movie is now chasing history, with $2 billion within its grasp in the next few days. The movie is already the 16th film to gross north of $1 billion at the foreign box office.
Earlier today, Universal’s The Odyssey became Christopher Nolan’s highest-grossing movie ever in his career, with $1.1 billion.
The movie topped the global markets, ranking No. 1 in 67 of its markets across 72,800-plus screens — except for Korea, where Universal’s The Odyssey grabbed a No. 1 take of $14.5 million.
In international markets, China once again proved to be the top market for the makers, giving them around $29.1 million for a cume of $186.7 million.
Brand New Day became India’s biggest Hollywood release ever after a $10.6 million weekend, taking its tally to $52.8 million. Brazil delivered the frame’s best hold among the top 10 markets, down 33 per cent for $13.4 million and a $46.3 million cume.
Other top weekend results are UK ($16.0 million, -49 per cent, $87.4 million cume), Mexico ($15.3 million, -51 per cent, $65.8 million cume), France ($13.9 million, -50 per cent, $49.2 million cume), Australia ($12.0 million, -44 per cent, $39.1 million cume), Germany ($10.5 million, -35 per cent, $37.6 million cume), and Italy ($6.3 million, -54 per cent, $31.1 million cume).
In the UK and Ireland, The Odyssey saw $7.2 million for a running cume of $82.4 million, the No. 2 picture in the market behind Brand New Day and Nolan’s biggest film ever in his native land.
