Tom Holland’s fourth solo outing as the web-slinging superhero has made an extraordinary start at the global box office, shattering a long-standing record previously held by ‘Avengers: Endgame ‘even before its full worldwide launch. The new entry, titled ‘Brand New Day’, generated $72 million from Thursday previews and early-access screenings in North America and select international markets. This figure surpasses the previous record of $60 million set by ‘Endgame’ in 2019, securing the highest preview collection in cinema history.
While 'Endgame' leveraged its preview momentum to achieve an unmatched $1.2 billion global opening weekend, ‘Brand New Day’ is aiming for a slightly more modest, yet still staggering, launch. Co-produced by Marvel Studios and Sony, the film is projected to collect between $250 million and $260 million in North America over its opening weekend, with global estimates sitting around $550 million. If these projections hold, it will secure the largest opening of the year and the second-biggest North American debut of all time.
The film has also rewritten the record books in overseas territories like India, where it enjoyed an early Thursday release. It opened to an unprecedented ₹60 crore net ($8 million gross), marking the highest single-day debut for any Hollywood title in the country and outperforming past hits such as ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, ‘The Odyssey’, and ‘Endgame’. It followed that up with an additional ₹49 crore net ($6.5 million gross) on Friday, outpacing several major domestic releases, including ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Dhurandhar’.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day finds Peter Parker navigating life entirely on his own in a world that no longer remembers his identity. Alongside Holland, the Marvel Cinematic Universe feature sees the return of Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned, while adding Sadie Sink, Mark Ruffalo, and Jon Bernthal to the ensemble as new threats and allies emerge.
