The second season of the popular Korean survival drama series "Squid Game" is set to return on December 26, as announced by the streaming platform on Thursday.
Netflix also disclosed that the third and final season of the widely acclaimed series, helmed by director Hwang Dong-hyuk, will debut in 2025. The upcoming season is once again created by Hwang, who previously directed, wrote, and executive produced the first part, which was a huge success for the streaming service upon its release in September 2021.
Renowned Korean actor Lee Jung-jae, known for his portrayal of Song Gi-hun, also known as player number 456, and Lee Byung-hun, who portrayed the enigmatic character of The Frontman, will be reprising their roles. Additionally, Wi Ha-jun and Gong Yoo are set to return.
Netflix announced in a press release that the news was accompanied by an intriguing teaser featuring a track race, where survival, rather than a medal, is at stake.
"As bodies fall, the Frontman prepares the audience for the real game about to begin. So make sure you have your player numbers in place and the odds in your favour, as you join Gi-Hun in his return to the games once again," it read.
The much-awaited second season is set three years after the events of the Squid Game, a contest where 456 players, all of them in deep financial debt, were brought to a secret play to play a deadly children’s game for a chance to win a 45.6 billion won prize.
Now, Gi-Hun, aka Player 456, the winner of the Squid Game, is determined to find the people behind the sport and end their vicious competition.
