The red carpet has been rolled out for one of the most awaited fashion events of the year – the Met Gala. Increasingly gaining hold in India, this year, the event marks the debut of Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan and internationally-acclaimed Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh, among others from South Asia. Khan, also fondly known as ‘King Khan’, was spotted exiting the New York airport and waving to fans.
The star was accompanied by his manager Pooja Dadlani and seemed to have travelled without any large entourage and just one suitcase. It is reported that Khan will don an ensemble by Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee.
Another name sending ripples of excitement is Diljit Dosanjh, who has earned fame for not only his art but also a keen sense of fashion. Sharing a story on his Instagram page, the actor-singer wrote, ‘First Time’ in the caption and the song, ‘Met Gala’, by Gunna.

To be held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on May 5, the invite-only event is formally known as the Costume Institute Benefit. It is a fundraiser that was founded in 1948 by publicist Eleanor Lambert to encourage donations from the crème de la crème of New York. The benefit is dedicated to New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute – formally named the Anna Wintour Costume Centre as a tribute to the American Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief. Wintour has been a chair member of the museum’s gala since 1995.
Since the Met Gala marks the opening night of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit, it has a theme according to which invitees must dress. This year, the theme is ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’.
A night of sumptuous outfits and a barrage of photographers, the Gala has previously been attended by Indian celebrities including Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Deepika Padukone.
