"Stree 2", which stars Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, had an impressive start by grossing ₹76.5 crore on its opening day, as per the announcement made by the producers.
Directed by Amar Kaushik, the sequel to the 2018 hit film "Stree" hit theatres nationwide on Independence Day, August 15.
Maddock Films, the production banner headed by Dinesh Vijan, revealed the movie's opening day collections through a poster, confirming that the film had garnered Rs 76.5 crore in gross earnings.
"Stree 2 creates HISTORY! India’s highest Day 1 Box office ever! Thank you audience for all the love," the production company posted.
Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana co-starred in "Stree," which was both a commercial success and received critical acclaim in 2018. All three actors are set to return for the sequel.
"Stree 2," directed by Amar Kaushik, outperformed two competing films: Akshay Kumar’s “Khel Khel Mein” and John Abraham’s “Vedaa”.
Nikhil Advani helms "Vedaa," a film inspired by real-life events that focus on caste discrimination. Sharvari plays the lead role, and John Abraham portrays her mentor, former Major Abhimanyu Kanwar.
Reports from Zee Studios indicate that the film garnered a net box office collection of ₹6.75 crore.
"Khel Khel Mein" features an ensemble cast, including Taapsee Pannu, Vaani Kapoor, Fardeen Khan, Ammy Virk, Aditya Seal, and Pragya Jaiswal.
The banner behind the film, T-Series, has not yet disclosed the film's opening day numbers.
Industry tracking website Sacnilk reported that the movie grossed ₹6.5 crore at the domestic box office.
The comedy-drama is directed by Mudassar Aziz, known for "Happy Bhag Jayegi" and "Pati Patni Aur Woh."
