In R&B, SZA claimed Best Progressive R&B Album (SOS) and Victoria Monét earned Best R&B Album (JAGUAR II). Killer Mike dominated the rap genre, winning Best Rap Album for MICHAEL and Best Rap Performance for “SCIENTISTS & ENGINEERS” featuring André 3000, Future, and Eryn Allen Kane.

 

The Latin music scene saw Gaby Moreno's X Mí Vol. 1 winning Best Latin Pop Album, and Peso Pluma's GÉNESIS securing Best Música Mexicana Album.

 

Béla Fleck, Edgar Meyer, and Zakir Hussain's collaboration on Pashto earned them Best Global Music Performance recognition. Reggae enthusiasts celebrated Julian Marley & Antaeus for their album Colors Of Royal.

Jazz victories included Samara Joy's Best Jazz Performance for “Tight” and Meshell Ndegeocello's The Omnichord Real Book winning Best Alternative Jazz Album.

The Grammys honoured roots and Americana genres with Allison Russell's “Eve Was Black” as Best American Roots Performance and Brandy Clark Featuring Brandi Carlile's “Dear Insecurity” as Best Americana Performance.

 

This extensive list highlights the Grammys' commitment to recognizing musical excellence across diverse genres, contributing to the rich tapestry of the music industry. As we applaud these winners, we anticipate the continued evolution and innovation within the realm of music.

 

In a thrilling culmination, the Grammy Awards also showcased the global resonance of music, as Indian maestros Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain's fusion band 'Shakti' secured the prestigious 'Best Global Music Album' for 'This Moment.'

 

The joyous moment was captured on the Grammys' official X (formerly Twitter) account, showing Mahadevan and Ganesh Rajagopalan receiving the award on stage. The Grammys expressed their congratulations in a tweet: “Congrats Best Global Music Album winner - 'This Moment' Shakti. #GRAMMYs.”

 

During his heartfelt acceptance speech, Shankar Mahadevan expressed gratitude, saying, “Thank you, boys. Thank you, God, family, friends, and India. India, we are proud of you…Last but not least, I would like to dedicate this award to my wife, to whom every note of my music is dedicated.” The crowd erupted in cheers, resonating with the significance of this achievement.

 

'This Moment,' released on June 30 last year, features eight transcendent compositions by John McLaughlin (guitar synth), Zakir Hussain (tabla), Shankar Mahadevan (vocalist), V Selvaganesh (percussionist), and Ganesh Rajagopalan (violinist). The album received a Grammy nomination alongside esteemed artists such as Susana Baca, Bokante, Burna Boy, and Davido.

 

Zakir Hussain continued his winning streak, securing another Grammy in the 'Best Global Music Performance' category for his contribution to 'Pashto,' alongside Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer, featuring the virtuoso flute player Rakesh Chaurasia. Notably, Zakir Hussain celebrated three awards in one night, while Rakesh

Chaurasia earned two well-deserved honours.

 

The success of Shakti and the individual triumphs of Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain underscore the global recognition and appreciation for India's rich musical heritage. As these virtuosos continue to push the boundaries of musical innovation, their Grammy Awards achievements stand as a testament to the profound impact of their artistry on the world stage.
