Veteran actor Satish Shah passes away aged 74

Known for his iconic roles in films like Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, and hit TV drama, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, the actor passed away on Saturday at the age of 74

Veteran actor Satish Shah passed away in Mumbai on Saturday, aged 74


Veteran actor Satish Shah of Sarabhai vs Sarabhai fame, passed away on Saturday at the age of 74. 


Filmmaker Ashok Pandit confirmed the news on social media, saying the actor died around 2.30 pm due to kidney failure. 


“With a heavy heart, I want to say that our friend and a very good actor, Satish Shah, died around 2:30 pm today due to kidney failure. His health deteriorated while he was at home, and he was taken to the hospital immediately. Sadly, he couldn’t survive. His cremation will take place today. It’s a very big loss for the industry. I have worked with him on many projects. I was coming back from Piyush Pandey’s last rites when my family informed me about Satish’s passing,” he said.

An alumnus of the famed Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Shah was known for his impeccable comic timing and easy, yet imposing screen presence. He earned fame for a wide variety of roles with depth and magnitude, including his 1984 sitcom Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi, directed by Kundan Shah and Manjul Sinha, where he played 55 different characters in 55 episodes.

 

His character of Indravadhan Sarabhai in the 2004 television show Sarabhai vs Sarabhai is perhaps one of his most cherished performances on screen.


Another of his iconic performances was in the 1984 movie Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, directed by Kundan Shah, in which he played the role of Municipal Commissioner, D'Mello. 


His first movie, however, was Arvind Desai Ki Ajeeb Dastaan in 1978.
