Union Home Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Amit Shah on Tuesday held a roadshow in West Bengal’s Malda, weeks ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in the district.

While addressing a mass gathering in Raiganj, which is going to polls on April 26, Shah highlighted the issue of ‘infiltrators’. “People of Raiganj will agree that infiltration should stop in West Bengal. And none but the BJP can save Bengal from this menace. The Mamata Banerjee-led government has turned a blind eye to this problem.”

Training his guns at the ruling Trinamool Congress, Shah raked up the issue of Sandeshkhali. “For the sake of her vote bank, CM Banerjee did not do anything for the women of Sandeshkhali. Instead of working for the women’s cause and giving them justice, CM Banerjee was trying to save her supporters who are in jail now. I congratulate the women of Sandeshkhali for fighting for her cause,” added Shah.

The roadshow started around 1 pm in the Malda South constituency, from Head Post office More to the Rabindra statue and reached Raiganj in Uttar Dinajpur district of the state.

Shah, standing atop a decorated lorry along with state BJP leaders, was seen waving at the crowd as a sea of people came to welcome him.

Slogans in praise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Shah were heard from every corner of the street from where Shah’s convoy passed, as hundreds of people gathered on both sides of the road.

While Malda goes to polls in the third phase on May 7, people of Raiganj will cast their vote on April 26.
