Rajasthan will continue to experience intense heatwave conditions and warm nights for the next few days, as there is no immediate relief in sight. The India Meteorological Department's (IMD) Rajasthan Meteorological Centre announced on Monday that temperatures will remain high, with little to no change expected until May 29.
Radheshyam Sharma, Director of the Meteorological Centre in Jaipur, stated that surface winds of 25-35 kmph are expected in various parts of the state over the next 72 hours.
He emphasised that the maximum temperature will remain high without significant fluctuation until the end of the month. Phalodi, for the first time this season, has recorded temperatures exceeding 50 degrees Celsius. Additionally, places like Jaisalmer and Barmer have seen a seven-degree increase in night temperatures.
Sharma noted that due to the current weakness of anticyclonic conditions over the state, there might be a slight drop in maximum temperatures by two to three degrees Celsius in parts of Eastern Rajasthan starting from May 29 and in Western Rajasthan from May 30. However, the overall maximum temperatures are expected to return to near normal levels in most parts of the state by the first week of June.
The forecast also includes strong surface winds of 25-35 kmph in areas such as Jodhpur, Bikaner, Ajmer, and Jaipur divisions over the next three days. These winds might provide some temporary respite from the scorching heat.
The intense heatwave isn't limited to Rajasthan. Large parts of northern India continue to experience soaring temperatures, with many places recording over 45 degrees Celsius.
On Sunday, Mungeshpur in Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 48.3 degrees Celsius, while Faridkot in Punjab reached 47.4 degrees Celsius, according to the IMD.
The ongoing heatwave is impacting daily life and activities, with residents advised to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the extreme heat. Health officials recommend staying hydrated, avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and wearing light, breathable clothing.
Rajasthan and other parts of northern India are bracing for continued high temperatures and heatwave conditions for the next few days. While slight relief may be on the horizon as temperatures are expected to drop marginally towards the end of the month, the overall weather pattern will remain challenging for residents across the affected regions.
