Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced financial support for the families affected by the tragic fire incident in the game zone in Rajkot, Gujarat.
Each deceased person's next of kin will receive Rs 2 lakh from the PM's National Relief Fund, while the injured will be provided Rs 50,000 each. Additionally, the Gujarat government has declared an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
The fire, which occurred in the Nana-Mava locality of Rajkot city, claimed the lives of 27 individuals, including four children, and left three others injured. President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and PM Modi expressed their condolences over the tragic incident.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel visited Rajkot to assess the situation. He inspected the site of the tragedy, met with the families of the victims, and offered his condolences.
During a high-level review meeting at Hirasar Airport in Rajkot, the CM emphasised the need for a thorough investigation into the incident and instructed authorities to take strict action against those responsible.
The prompt response of the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) fire teams and police in conducting rescue and relief operations was commended.
Measures were taken to shift the injured to hospitals promptly, and a burns ward with a capacity of 100 beds was established at the civil hospital. Surgeons and trained nurses were mobilised from nearby cities to provide medical assistance.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway, with the state-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) working to submit a preliminary report within three days.
As a precautionary measure, the Director General of Police (DGP) Vikas Sahay has ordered the closure of all game zones in different cities of the state, while safety protocols, including fire safety measures, are being reinforced.
