The scorching heat wave has tightened its grip over Rajasthan, with temperatures soaring to a blistering 50 degrees Celsius. The intense heat is expected to persist for the next two to three days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
In the past 24 hours, Phalodi witnessed a sweltering 50 degrees Celsius, marking the peak of the heatwave. Other cities in Rajasthan, including Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Churu, Jodhpur, Ganganagar, Kota, and Jaipur, recorded temperatures well above 40 degrees Celsius, further exacerbating the situation.
The searing temperatures have disrupted normal life across the state, especially for those exposed to the sun for prolonged periods. To combat the effects of the scorching heat, people are taking precautions such as staying hydrated, avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours, and covering themselves with cloth when outdoors.
Residents of Jaipur shared their experiences, emphasising the importance of staying hydrated and taking necessary precautions to shield themselves from the heat. Delivery workers, who are required to be outdoors, are particularly vulnerable and are prioritising hydration to stay safe.
Shyamlal Choudhary, a resident, advised people to avoid venturing out during the afternoon hours and to cover their heads and bodies with cloth if they must go out. These simple measures can help mitigate the risks associated with extreme heat.
According to Radhey Shyam Sharma, Director of the Meteorological Center in Jaipur, the current heatwave is expected to persist for the next few days, with a slight decrease in temperatures anticipated by May 29th or 30th. However, severe heatwave conditions are likely to continue in several parts of Rajasthan and neighbouring states.
The IMD has issued warnings for West Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Vidarbha, highlighting the persistence of heatwave conditions. Residents are urged to take necessary precautions and stay updated on weather advisories to stay safe during this intense heatwave.
