The interest in Punjab's Ludhiana parliamentary constituency is increasing with the limelight on Congress candidate Amrinder Singh Warring, and BJP's pick Ravneet Singh Bittu.
The contest for the Ludhiana is expected to be a prestige battle between 'hand' and 'lotus'.
Shiromani Akali Dal's Ranjit Singh Dhillion, Aam Aadmi Party's Ashok Prashar Pappi, and Bahujan Samaj Party's Davinder Singh Ramgharia are also contesting for the seat.
Bittu, a three-time sitting MP, grandson of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, ditched Congress and joined the saffron fold in March this year. Bittu is pitted against Warring, Punjab Congress chief.
Bittu has held a grip on the seat since 2014 when he first won the parliamentary constituency as a Congress candidate, followed by another victory in 2019.
Senior leaders of BJP, AAP, Congress, and Akali Dal came out in support of their candidates, considering the significance of the seat.
AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, BJP leader, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are among the big names who carried out rallies in Ludhiana.
The Ludhiana parliamentary constituency comprises nine assembly segments including Ludhiana East, Ludhiana South, Atam Nagar, Ludhiana Central, Ludhiana West, Ludhiana North, Gill (SC), Dakha, and Jagraon (SC).
Punjab's 13 Lok Sabha seats are going to polls in the seventh and last phase, scheduled for June 1.
