Union Minister Parshottam Rupala criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his recent remarks about "fighting against a shakti", asserting that India is fortunate not to have leaders with such ideologies in power.
Rupala, who is contesting for the Rajkot Lok Sabha seat in Gujarat on behalf of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), made these comments following Gandhi's statement during his 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' in Mumbai. Gandhi had stated, "Our fight against Modi is not on a personal level. Modi is a 'mask' who works for a 'shakti' (power)."
Speaking at a private event near Kuvadava village in Rajkot, Rupala emphasised the significance of 'shakti' in Indian culture, highlighting the reverence for goddesses and female deities like Jagdamba during Navratri.
He expressed bewilderment at Gandhi's criticism of 'shakti,' suggesting that it may have been influenced by external forces. However, Rupala underscored that India is not governed by individuals who oppose such fundamental aspects of Indian culture.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also criticised Gandhi's remarks earlier, asserting that every mother and daughter embody 'shakti,' which he deeply respects and worships.
In response, Gandhi defended his statement, accusing Modi of distorting its meaning. He clarified that his reference to 'shakti' was not religious but referred to the power of unrighteousness, corruption, and falsehood.
Gandhi's remarks had stirred controversy, with political leaders exchanging differing interpretations of his statements. While the BJP interpreted his words as an attack on Indian culture and values, Gandhi maintained that he was targeting the misuse of power and authority.
The clash of ideologies between the BJP and the Congress underscores the ongoing political tensions in the country, especially in the lead-up to the forthcoming elections.
As both parties continue to engage in verbal sparring, the electorate remains vigilant, scrutinising each leader's words and actions as they navigate the complex landscape of Indian politics.
