Following the recent escalation and rebel takeover, at least 1.1 million people have been displaced across Syria since the fighting between pro-government forces and rebels escalated On November 27, the UN said.

According to UN estimates, the majority of the displaced people are women and children, said OCHA’s latest report on the ground situation in Syria.

As per the OCHA report, approximately 640,000 people have fled Aleppo governorate, 334,000 fled Idlib, and 136,000 fled from Hama post-rebel takeover.

Additionally, 438, 000 displaced before the recent HTS takeover have arrived back in Idlib from other areas, 170,000 in Hama and 123,000 in rural Damascus.

More than 400,000 people are now staying in 240 collective shelters across North-Eastern areas of the country, where they are receiving humanitarian support such as food, hygiene kits, and psychological support.

Nearly 700,000 people in Aleppo, Idlib, Homs, and Hama have been provided with food assistance since the start of the escalation in violence, OCHA added.

The country is facing an existential crisis with Israel snatching parts of Syria that remained with the Syrian government.

Subsequently, the international community has also stepped in to de-escalate the tensions between Syria, Iran, and Israel.

The 13-year-long ongoing war has already deteriorated the country’s critical infrastructure like health and education.

The country now requires billions of dollars to restructure and position itself for the pre-war-like scenario.

Syria used to be a developing economy and was performing better on all UN development indicators in 2011.

However, since the Arab spring uprisings, the continuous violence and war has pushed Syria into deep crisis.
