British authorities arrested two individuals late Saturday following a horrific mass stabbing aboard a crowded London-bound passenger train, an incident that sent 10 victims to hospital—nine of whom sustained what are believed to be life-threatening injuries. The attack unfolded on a service operated by London North Eastern Railway (LNER), prompting an immediate emergency response and the complete shutdown of rail lines in the area.
The violence erupted shortly after the train departed Peterborough, a stop en route from Doncaster in northern England to London's King's Cross Station—a heavily trafficked corridor popular with commuters, tourists, and business travellers. Alerts reached emergency services around 7:40 pm local time (1940 GMT), leading to the train being halted at Huntingdon railway station in rural eastern Cambridgeshire.
Armed police units, supported by patrol vehicles and a large contingent of ambulances, rapidly converged on the scene. The station was transformed into a high-security zone as officers secured the area and began evacuating passengers.

British Transport Police (BTP) issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter) confirming the scale of the carnage: "Ten people have been taken to hospital following a multiple stabbing on a train in Cambridgeshire. Nine are believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries." The force noted that specialist counter-terrorism detectives were assisting the investigation, though no immediate classification of the incident as terrorism was announced.
Passengers described a nightmarish sequence of events inside the train carriages. One witness, speaking anonymously, recounted spotting a man brandishing a large knife amid the panic. "There was blood everywhere," the individual said, adding that terrified travellers sought refuge by barricading themselves in the train's washrooms.
In the ensuing stampede, some passengers were trampled by others desperately fleeing the assailant. The same witness reported hearing shouts of "We love you" amid the screams—possibly words of encouragement or farewell exchanged in the midst of the terror.
Additional accounts provided to media houses detailed the dramatic conclusion on the platform. After the train came to a stop, witnesses observed a man still clutching a large knife. Police swiftly intervened, deploying a taser to subdue him before placing him in restraints. A second suspect was also taken into custody, though details of their apprehension remain unclear.
