The Israeli defence ministry on Sunday said it has referred some 16,000 soldiers for rehab since the beginning of the Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip following the October 7 Hamas assault. It said the soldiers have been suffering from stress disorders and physical injuries.

According to the Defence Ministry, around half of those received by the rehab centres amid the war have PTSD. Of them, 2,900 are suffering both physical injuries and psychological distress.

Some 6 per cent are said to have moderate injuries and another 4 per cent have severe injuries. 72 are listed as amputees. Among the 16,000 soldiers, around 66 per cent are reserves.

The rehab department is working with some 78,000 wounded veterans in total, including those from previous wars.

It forecasts that by 2030, the centres will be treating some 100,000, with at least half of them suffering from PTSD.

In its ongoing war against Hamas and Hezbollah, Israel has suffered heavy losses both in terms of men and machinery.

The majority of the Israeli soldiers have died and been injured as a result of the death traps set by Hamas, including rocket attacks by Hezbollah and targeted sniper fire by the guerrilla factions fighting against the IDF.

Despite its massive and relentless offensive in Gaza, the experts point out that Israel is fighting an unwinnable war, and also its enemies have doubled or somewhat consolidated their strength by recruiting more fighters.

While Netanyahu is hell-bent on continuing the ongoing invasion, the freed hostages and their families have accused Netanyahu of sabotaging the deal with Hamas, adding he has sacrificed the remaining 59 hostages.
