The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) have said that more than 250,000 people have left Gaza City amid the evacuation orders by the Israeli government.

The IDF called on Gaza City residents to move to a humanitarian zone in Al Mawasi near Khan Younis in the south of the territory. According to the UN, nearly 1 million Palestinians live in and around Gaza City. While IDF suggests that “more than a quarter of a million residents of the city have moved out of the city for their own safety”, as the Israeli military was planning to reoccupy much of Gaza.

On Saturday, the Gaza health ministry said at least 32 people had been killed across the city as the IDF intensified its military operations. In the past weeks, the Israeli military has targeted high-rise residential buildings under the guise of targeting Hamas.

The IDF have made several confounding statements lately; in one instance, they said Hamas lives and operates under the sophisticated tunnel network.

While it also said that they were also using high-rise buildings in Gaza City, which seems unlikely since Hamas would be well aware of the Israeli air power. Experts have said that these are nothing but excuses to flatten Gaza and erase all markers that could have any footprint of the Palestinian existence in Gaza City.

Meanwhile, thousands of people gathered in the German capital, Berlin, to demand a ceasefire in Gaza and also a ban on weapons sold to Israel.

Police estimated around 8,000 participants at the start, with more arriving. Organisers claimed that up to 20,000 people attended the event. The demonstration took place under the slogan "Stop the genocide in Gaza." Russia’s war on Ukraine was also part of the protest's focus.
